Laguna Woods History Center

The Laguna Woods History Center is a non-profit public museum located at 22505 El Toro Road in San Juan Capistrano, CA. The center features exhibits that provide historical information about the early days of the South Orange County area, particularly Laguna Woods and the adjacent city of Laguna Beach.

The Laguna Woods History Center (LWHC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization responsible for the operation of the Laguna Woods Village Museum (LWVM). The museum covers the history of South Orange County with an emphasis on the City of Laguna Beach and surrounding areas. It is located in historic Building 500 at the entrance to Laguna Woods Village near the corner of El Toro Rd & Las Flores Dr.

Built-in the late 1960s, Laguna Woods Village is an ethnically diverse planned community situated in San Juan Capistrano, California. It is a perfect place for you to live if you are looking for a senior independent living community that is comfortable and yet convenient to several recreational places. The village provides a variety of amenities and it also offers assisted living options as well as round-the-clock healthcare services including nursing care, social services, and rehabilitation. The village center comprises many facilities including a clubhouse, medical office, dining facility, beauty salon, and barbershops.

There are three types of homes in this village: single-family homes with attached one or two car garages, duplexes and garden apartments. Each home has its own bathroom, kitchen and private yard.

Laguna Woods Village is designed to promote active senior living through the use of common areas that are located nearby its homes. There are also walking paths and parks within the vicinity of the home community.

In addition to these features, each homeowner will be given access to fitness facilities as well as social activities that take place every month in order for them to meet other people in the neighborhood.

The focus of the museum is the history of Laguna Woods Village. It is home to over 2,100 residents who enjoy the quiet serenity of a neighborhood with a beautiful lake. Laguna Woods Village was conceived in 1959 by Walter H. Annenberg and the late Samuel M. Rauh, Jr., as a planned community where seniors could live in high style and enjoy a "second act" of leisurely living and social interaction.

Laguna Woods History Center is dedicated to the preservation of Laguna Woods' history. The museum serves as a venue for community events and programs, including the annual Memorial Day Ceremony. The museum houses a research library and archives and provides educational resources for educators and students in Orange County.
