Dripping Cave Trail

Dripping Cave Trail is a wonderful trail in San Juan Capistrano, California that takes you through a beautiful cave.

Dripping Cave Trail is a perfect hike for families with young children and older adults. This easy trail takes you through a large, natural cave. The trail begins at the end of Ortega Highway where you will find the trailhead. Up to this point, the road has been very narrow and winding but it opens up into a clearing where a small parking lot is located. From here, the trailhead begins. The path of the trail is very easy to follow as it winds through many different areas of the park. You will walk through several different varieties of trees as you make your way along the path. As you walk along, you will see an outcropping above you which leads into the cave itself. You can climb up these steps and stand on top to get a good view of everything below you.

The great thing about this hike is that it has something for everyone no matter what your skill level may be. If you are up to taking on a little more of a challenge, you can take on some tougher trails in the same area.

This 4-mile round trip trail is one of the most popular hikes in San Juan Capistrano. The trailhead is behind the visitor center, which is located at 3150 Camino Del Avion. Be sure to arrive early because spots fill up quickly.

Hike along a creek bed, through a cave, and up a wash to this rarely-visited part of Sendero Trampeón Trail. This route offers wildlife viewing opportunities, waterfalls, lush vegetation, and a cave that was once home to the Luiseno Indians. Along the way, you'll be able to see a variety of wildlife, including deer, birds, and frogs. The trailhead is located behind the visitor center at 3150 Camino Del Avion in San Juan Capistrano.

The trailhead for this 4.0-mile out-and-back hike is easy to find, but the drive to get there can be a little confusing. The trail starts at the end of East Camino Cielo Road, which is accessed from El Camino Real.

After about 2 miles, you'll reach a fork in the trail. You can either turn right and follow the road back to your starting point or continue straight on the main trail (which becomes less distinct). The latter option will take you through the beautiful San Juan Capistrano Botanic Garden.

The final stretch of your hike will be along a paved road that runs through several residential neighborhoods before leading back to El Camino Real.

Dripping Cave Trail is dog friendly and considered moderately difficult. However, if you're looking for a challenge, turn left (instead of right) at the fork in the trail after about 1 mile and continue toward Smith Peak until it becomes too steep for the ascent.
