Long Beach police are looking for the suspect of a hit-and-run driver accused of killing a 78-year-old grandmother.
Around 10:00 pm on July 6th, Jere Whitney was crossing the street with a green light in a crosswalk on Fourth Street at Ximeno Avenue when a driver made a left turn and hit Whitney.
The vehicle is believed to be an orange 2019-2021 Subaru Crosstrek.
Whitney leaves behind a large family including three adult sons, seven grandchildren, and many friends. She was a well-liked writer, an award-winning screenwriter, she volunteered at the Museum of Latin American Art, and was a longtime volunteer at the Long Beach Playhouse.
Based on all reports, Whitney will be sorely missed.
