A Mercedez-Benz slammed into a Kia Soul killing three men in Anaheim on Brookhurst street between Broadway and Orange Avenue just before 3:00 am. Two women who were in the Mercedes-Benz left the scene and were found at a nearby hospital being treated for injuries.
Witnesses said they heard a car screeching, then impact sounds, and saw debris and cars. A small fire started under the hood of the Mercedes and was quickly extinguished.
Police are not releasing the names of the victims until their families have been notified.
Investigators are piecing together the events leading up to the deadly crash. Conflicting witness statements and statements from those involved, questions about how the two women left the scene, and the nighttime are adding to the complexity of the crash. Speed could play a factor in the responsibility of the crash, and surveillance video may help in the determination. Police said this accident will take longer to sort out.
